The Otter company was founded around 1840 in a small "Kotten"—a traditional water-powered grinding shop—at the Königsmühle in Solingen.

Its name comes from the fish otters that lived on the banks of the streams and rivers in the region "Bergisches Land" at that time. These decorate the products as the logo of the company. The pocket knives and knives with fixed blade are manufactured in Solingen in the traditional way. Especially popular in the online shop are the Mercator knife and the anchor knife. Even today, the pocket knives and fixed-blade knives are still produced and sharpened by hand with great care. The assortment includes knives for leisure, household, garden and hunting. Mostly equipped with carbon blades, these knives have an excellent cutting durability and testify robust quality—Made in Solingen/Germany.
